Athanasios Ghikas
He started his career as engineer in the distribution unit of the Public Power Corporation. He then worked for 20 years as consultant with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and later KPMG, where he was responsible for serving the Utilities and Telecommunications industries. He has advised at top executive level the Greek state owned broadcaster, the electricity utility, the telecommunications regulator and telecommunications operators. He is an Electrical Engineer and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York, where he studied as a Fulbright grantee. Mr Ghikas has been a visionary of "smart energy" (electrical energy in particular) for the past 30 years. This is documented by the letter he sent to his superiors in 1982 as a young distribution engineer of the Public Power Corporation, suggesting that the Company should start experimenting with electronic meters (!) and marginal pricing of electricity (!). A letter that went unanswered. |
